Which
printers are supported? |
JacanaForms supports a variety of printers – desktop, mid-range,
high speed models using PCL, Postscript, Metacode, AFP and thermal
transfer label printers. And specialized drivers insure output at the
rated speed of the laser printer. JacanaForms is scaleable and will
operate for a small workgroup or across an entire organization.
Momentum is a Hewlett Packard Peripheral Development Partner.
JacanaForms has been specially tuned to support the HP LaserJet range
of printers, including the following models:
- LaserJet 4000, 8100
- LaserJet 4500 & 8500 Color Laser Printers.
High volume printer support: Xerox
Metacode and IBM AFP are available as optional support. Please check
your requirements with Momentum.
Cluster printing: Cluster printing
is the direct connection via LAN of multiple printers to a single NT
server that regulates the print process. Combining up to 10 printers
printing at their rated speed of 32ppm, the effective throughput is
320 ppm, or 19,200 pages per hour. To review processing volumes please
check with Momentum.
Each new release of JacanaForms
will include updates to printers recently released in the marketplace.

How
do I implement multi-tray forms printing? |
The paper handling options that are supported are printer
dependent. If the chosen printer driver has support for various paper
handling options on the printer device, then these will appear in the
menu option of JacanaForms Design. Paper sources can include the
manual feed tray, envelope feeder or other tray /cassette options.
Utilizing such features with colored paper stock in each tray can
address visual identification that is inherent in pre-printed
multi-part forms i.e. multiple copies of the document are printed, one
to each tray with each tray containing a different color stock.
Another simple alternative to different color stocks is to
literally print the words in a large watermark on the page e.g. ‘PINK
COPY’.
JacanaForms can also address the need to print a page, followed by
an envelope for that page from the same data stream.

3. |
Can
I route to multiple printers from JacanaForms output? |
Routing of the printing to more
that one printer is straightforward in a JacanaForms solution. For
example, printing three (3) copies of the purchase order in different
locations can be achieved by adding extra steps in the Central
component to merge the data with the same form and print each step to
a separate predefined printer location. Each step could also use a
different occurrence of the purchase order to enable addition or
suppression of information. For example, the purchase order to the
warehouse could exclude dollar values.

4. |
Will
I achieve rated print speed using JacanaForms? |
JacanaForms
uses optimized printer drivers for the selected printer. Optimized drivers will achieve rated speed.

|
5. |
Is
duplex printing available? |
If the printer can print in duplex, the form can be
designed utilizing that feature.
|
|
 |
|
6. |
Is
label printing supported? |
JacanaForms supports certain models
of Zebra, Intermac, Datamax, TEC and Monarch thermal transfer bar code
label printers. Please refer to Momentum with your specific
requirements.
|
|
 |
|
7. |
Can I
use the internal flash memory and hard drive of the printer to reduce network traffic? |
Yes. JacanaForms
enables you to manage the memory in the printer device.
JacanaForms will by default, download the
electronic form to the printer once and then send the data in ASCII format.
|
|
 |
|
8. |
Can I
design a form and have it execute from a menu option in my iSeries application? |
Yes. Using the "run report" command, the
report can replace current print programs and seem transparent to the user.

9. |
Is
it possible to deliver forms output by e-mail? |
Forms output can be delivered to an
e-mail address. For further information refer to the Interface
to Email section.

|
10. |
Is
it possible to deliver forms output by fax? |
JacanaForms can produce the form output required by popular fax
solutions such as Omtool Fax Server, Quadrant, Write Fax and others.
Verification of the suitability of the chosen fax server product
should be ascertained from Momentum.
The integration with fax products is usually straight forward and
only requires JacanaForms
to output the print job as a print ready
file into the collector directory of the fax product. Omtool and
WriteFax can be installed on the same NT Server as the JacanaForms
Central component.
Forms design prototyping is recommended to ensure legibility.
Simple refinements such as an increase in font size may be
appropriate.

Can
files be output from JacanaForms as PDF documents? |
JacanaForms can output to an Adobe
Acrobat PDF document for archival and distribution purposes.

|
12. |
Can
the solution be implemented for multi-site companies? |
Many organizations operate in multiple
locations. JacanaForms
can deliver a print output file to any
nominated printer, as long as the path exists for the data file to
reach the printer. Print output files vary in size depending on number
of pages and complexity of other elements within that data file.
Output is generated and directed to the printer as PCL code with
typical file sizes c. 10-20KB per page.

13. |
Is
the Euro currency supported? |
The Euro graphic symbol is included in
the JacanaForms Design application. Currently printers do not support
the Euro font character. However, JacanaForms Design will allow the
form to be created with a graphic field added to the end of a numeric
field. The symbol is provided in a number of different point sizes.
This solution allows Central to print the Euro symbol.

How do I change the default printer in Design? |
There are two ways to select the printer you wish to use when printing through Central. It is recommended that you use a printer driver that is shipped with the Design product so that you will achieve rated speed. If, however, you wish to use a Windows Configured printer, then the Design tool will use the printer specified as the Windows Default via the Control Panel (on the computer that has the
Design tool installed). To change the Default printer, right click on the printer in Control Panel and check the option to "Set As Default". Next time you compile the form in Design, you will be using the new "Default" printer.
Using the provided drivers or the Windows Driver is a setting made via the File menu in Design.

How
do I install Adobe Central Output Server 5.5 on a Windows 2003 Server? |
If you are installing Adobe Central Output Server Version 5.5 on Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition, you must change the compatibility flag on the Central installation file, setup.exe. Without the change, the installation will fail when you attempt to enter the Product Authorization Code. Place the CD in to the CD ROM drive. This will cause the Autorun to begin. When the installation screen appears, click Quit to exit. From Windows Explorer, click on the CD drive and locate the file setup.exe. in the folder on the CD drive Products\PC\Central Pro Output server. Right-click setup.exe and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab, select the Run this program in compatibility mode for: check box and in the list, click Windows 2000. Click OK. Double-click setup.exe to continue the Central installation.

How do I enable Visual Transformation Editor to accept End Column values higher than 2000? |
Open the file taz.xml in a text editor (MUST be a basic no-frills editor like MS Notepad). The file is located in the directory where Visual Transformation Editor was installed, by default e.g. C:\Program Files\Adobe\TransEdit\. Locate the LinesColumnsMax element in taz.xml. (This is the element that governs the End Column values in the Simple Extractions dialog box.) Change the value of the LinesColumnsMax element from 2000 to the required higher value. The absolute maximum for this value is 10000. If LinesColumnsMax is set greater than 10000, Visual Transformation Editor displays a warning and uses the value of 10000 as the maximum.
Save taz.xml.
Note:The absolute limit of 10000 for the End Column only applies to Visual Transformation Editor. Transformation Agent does not have the same limitation. If required, the MaxRecordSize setting in the Transformation Agent configuration file can be set to a value above 10000.
