Report Mining in Brief ValetMiner
Often users just want to locate certain information quickly without wading through a massive report.

Most companies rely heavily on computer-generated reports to provide up-to-date information about sales, finances, production and other key business functions. Historically, many reports sacrificed specific information requirements of the individual by attempting to meet the broader needs of a larger user group, with the specks of information gold being easily submerged in a flood of data.

Jacana-OPEN/DB can often overcome this, with one or more reports designed by and for the individual. However, ValetMiner offers an alternative… letting an organization, through their PC users, leverage the investment inherent in complex and often voluminous heritage reports by mining the information gold directly from the existing application or Jacana-OPEN/DB reports.

The combination of Jacana-OPEN/DB and ValetMiner offers an ideal hybrid reporting solution - users add new reports as required and IS minimizes future resource investment while maximizing past investment in heritage reporting. For example, you can deliver data to PC applications direct from the database (using Jacana-OPEN/DB) or from existing reports (using ValetMiner)… whichever is the most cost and performance effective approach.

Just about anyone who works with data found in reports is a potential user of ValetMiner ... an ideal solution for managers, accountants, analysts and data processing professionals. With ValetMiner's powerful "point and click" Windows-based user interface, you can be a ValetMiner expert without having any prior programming knowledge.

What is ValetMiner?
ValetMiner is an easy-to-use data access and analysis tool that uses spooled report files as a source for data. Combining with the unique facilities of PrepP for Windows access and download of authorized spooled reports from the iSeries is straightforward.

Many existing reports offer a static, basic view of what is happening. To add meaning to the data contained in reports often requires further analysis and manipulation of the data. This usually means spending hours re-keying data, struggling with a PC application’s parse feature or trying to get help from a programmer. If the data is in existing reports getting the data is no longer a problem. Use ValetMiner. View data in new ways to reveal patterns and relationships that may not be apparent in the original report.

The Advantages of Using ValetMiner
  • Data is instantly available - each report represents a ready-made database…ValetMiner enables analysis of report data giving the user the ability to distil huge, often detailed reports into meaningful information without IS assistance.
  • Users are immediately productive - the product is straightforward to learn and use and can therefore be rapidly deployed. Users familiar with reports they work with will be productive very quickly.
  • Data security is maintained - users only gain access to data in reports they are already authorised to view. They are reading reports not the central database.
  • Existing reports are leveraged - exploiting the application investment already made.
  • IS resources are conserved - with fewer demands placed on IS for modified reporting, and user inquiries off loaded to their PC, the pressures on the iSeries are reduced and time-consuming and error prone rekeying of data from reports eliminated.
  • Stable, long term, consistent and evolutionary - complements existing applications and can be part of a strategic data access solution or simply a tactical measure to satisfy information hungry users who want immediate results.
